Growing Guide

Planting

Plant after the risk of severe frost has passed into fertile, well-drained soil. Allow each herb enough space to develop, with good air circulation and easy access for care and harvesting.

Containers: Use individual pots or generous planters with drainage holes and a quality peat-free compost.

Care

Watering: Water regularly while the plants establish, particularly during warm or dry weather. Meadowsweet and American Skullcap appreciate more consistent moisture than the other plants in the collection.

Feeding: Apply a light general-purpose feed or a small amount of compost in spring. Avoid overfeeding, which can encourage soft growth.

Maintenance: Remove spent flowers where appropriate, trim tired growth and keep the area around young plants free from weeds.

Harvesting & Storage

Harvesting: Harvest leaves or flowering stems only once plants are well established and correctly identified. Pick during dry weather for the best quality.

Storage: Use fresh material promptly. Where drying is appropriate, dry in a warm, airy place away from direct sunlight and store in an airtight labelled container.

UK Growing Conditions

These herbs have been selected for successful cultivation in UK gardens. Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position, improve heavy soil with organic matter and protect newly planted herbs during prolonged severe frost or waterlogging.

Culinary Uses
